The favors of the Lord are not exhausted, his mercies are not spent; They are renewed each morning so great is his faithfulness.   Lamentations 3:22

 Growing in Prayer 2010

When do you pray?  Developing habits of prayer help us to turn to God easily during the day not only at moments of extreme emotion.  Habits make it easier to do good things but forming them takes time and persistence.

Let's consider some times we can get in the habit of prayer -

Lord, give me the grace to work to bring about the things that I pray for.  Saint Thomas More

Daily

  • upon waking
  • before and after meals
  • before going to sleep

Moments

  • facing a crisis
  • making a serious decision
  • on seeing a beautiful sight
  • when we are tempted
  • after having sinned
  • when a friend or relative is sick or in trouble
  • on receiving a special blessing
  • before going on a journey
  • when we're not getting along with someone

In between times

  • on hold on the phone
  • waiting for a red light to change
  • standing in a checkout line
  • waiting for a bus
  • waiting for something to download
  • in an elevator
  • waiting for the doctor or dentist
  • on the treadmill
  • simple jobs like mowing the lawn or washing dishes

Where can you further incorporate the habit of prayer into your life?

We invite you to use this page to help you -

CLEAR THE GROUND-   Take a few minutes during the day to reflect on where you have seen the Holy Spirit working in your life lately.  Offer a prayer of gratitude.

PLANT THE SEED -   Check out Take Five For Faith in the left column for a daily scriptural prayer reflection.

NOURISH THE SOIL-  Try this prayer exercise. Take a slow deep breath and gently release it. As you inhale pray, "Come Holy Spirit", as you exhale silently offer yourself (person, thoughts, emotions, current actions etc) to the Lord. Repeat slowly 4-5 times.

Check back to this page throughout the year for information, inspiration, and a host of ever-changing ideas for GROWING IN PRAYER.
