Expectations 2009-10
1. Attend a PA training session in August or September and read the PA handbook.
2. Attend a 1-on-1 meeting with Jenny after filling out an application.
3. Attend all Servant Minister Meetings. These are new in 2009. They will be on Sunday nights about every 6 weeks from 4-6 pm in the youth room.
4. Be a positive role model.
5. Participate in ALL activities. (Do not leave the building or use your cell phone or personal music device without approval of your adult facilitator or Jenny.)
6. Be consistent in attendance.
7. Be prompt. We really need you there 15 minutes prior to the start of each meeting.
8. Check your email regularly for weekly updates.
9. Collaborate with your adult facilitator and CORE leaders to lead your group as a consistent team.
10.
Notify your adult facilitator, PAT or Jenny if you can not attend a meeting.
11. Contact each student in your small group or PA Pod a minimum of once a month at home.
12. Faith Alive meetings: Since Monday historically is a smaller group with fewer PA’s, we expect PA’s to get to know all the students in their small group. Since Wednesday historically is a large group with many PA’s, we are going to form PA Pods with 1 PA and 2-4 students. Really partner with these students at each meeting and make it a point to contact each one regularly, especially if you haven’t seen the student in a 2-3 meetings. Always follow up with new students with a phone call.
13. Assist with leading meeting. Everyone has leadership gifts and you will be expected to step up—give the talk, generate the icebreaker activity or create the PowerPoint. Jenny and PAT will coordinate this.
14. Circulate among and survey students about “Waddaya think?” Periodically, we will ask questions related to the Scripture, which will be the Gospel from the upcoming Sunday. PA’s will move around the room with their clipboard and ask students their opinions. All students will be encouraged to participate and all PA’s will try to eventually speak to each student.
15. Plan and Lead the Faith Alive Retreats— We have a fall and a winter retreat. ONLY PA’s who actively plan and participate in leading parts of the retreat will be allowed to attend.
16. Lead Kicked-Up Bible School— We need several leaders for each KUBS. We may need to rotate these leaders to give everyone the opportunity to shine.
17. Refrain from gift giving and overt contact. Please, do not give the students individual gifts. Also, many students may want to hug. That’s ok, but let them initiate it. No sitting or laying on each other. (No purpling.)

Servant Minister Facebook Policy 09
Jodi and I, as youth ministers, have a responsibility to uphold Catholic Christian values in all that we do, especially as it pertains to St. Susanna. While we do not particularly feel called to be social-networking police, we do need to maintain a consistent image. Therefore, we have established a policy at this time that all servant ministers (CORE students, PA’s and LIFE servant ministers) who have a Facebook accounts must “friend” all other servant ministers in on their team and Jenny and Jodi. It is strongly encouraged that a minimum of 2 adult facilitators/moderators also be “friended.”
We respect your right to choose how and what you post. However, as servant ministers, you have been held up as role models for other students. So, we need to be able to see all of your public posts – such as wall-to-wall posts. Your behavior as Catholic Christians needs to be consistent whether in person or on-line. Offensive posts or language is simply not acceptable.
So, right now, we are putting this out to you. We can see your full Facebook or you can step down as a servant minister. We are setting a pretty high standard. But remember, even if you choose to filter what some people see on your social networking sites, you don’t screen it from everyone. It is public domain, which means that it is NOT private. Anything on the internet can and quite possibly will be reviewed in the future when you may be applying for colleges or jobs.
Please contact Jenny or Jodi if you have any comments or concerns about this.
