When are KAIROS weekends? Minimize

Kairos Weekends are every March and September.  Watch the bulletin for exact dates.

 About Kairos Prison Ministry

The purpose of the Kairos Prison Ministry is to help build and nurture strong Christian communities among the residents of correctional institutions. The Kairos experience for residents starts with a 3-day short course in Christianity. This weekend involves 42 inmates and approximately 60 volunteers. The weekend is modeled after CRHP, and Cursillo and Emmaus Walks.

After their Kairos weekend, residents continue their faith walk by participating in small prayer groups. Groups meet weekly to enable sharing on a spiritual level and prayer for one another. Kairos participants attend monthly reunions and twice a year retreats in the institution with Kairos volunteers.

Wardens report improvements in the whole prison living environment due to the positive influence of residents that are in the Kairos program. Attendance at Sunday church services increases. Many residents who are active in the Kairos program become committed disciples of Jesus Christ.

How to Get Involved in KAIROS Ministry Minimize

Children’s Involvement: POSTERS and PLACEMATS

Create posters and placemats that will be shown to the inmates at Lebanon Correctional Institution (Leci). They should be based on God‟s love for them, as well as the love of the children doing the drawings.

The posters are taped to the wall of the gymnasium at Leci, so as many as the children want to make will be welcomed and appreciated. The placemats are used for table arrangements when serving meals; many placemats are needed. Mike Weil will provide placemats, so please contact him in advance of the project so that he can get these to you.

Adult Involvement: RETREAT SUPPORT

It costs approximately $8,000 to pay for a four day Kairos retreat. Meals are provided for all four days, as well as Bibles, crosses and all materials. Fund raisers and donations are always accepted.

Family Involvement: BAKING COOKIES FOR KAIROS

All the inmates and staff at Leci receive cookies for the Kairos retreat weekend, which comes to approximately 10,000 dozen. (That is not a misprint.) Bake 2 dozen cookies and put them in a gallon size zip lock baggie. As many baggies full of cookies that you want to bake can and will be used. It is of the utmost importance that while the cookies are baking that they are prayed over with the expectation that the Holy Spirit will use these cookies for His glory.

Check the St. Susanna bulletin for cookie drop-off locations prior to each retreat weekend or contact Mike Weil for details about where to drop off cookies.
