Ambulatory Minimize

The transparency of the outer walls is both a direct connection to God’s gift of the natural environment and, through the sloped glazing at the top of these walls, an expression of the transcendent lifting our gaze to the heavens.  Along these walls is a walkway with devotional chapels and the stations of the cross reminding us of the journey of Christ to the cross.

station on cross small.jpg  In keeping with parish tradition, the original Stations of the Cross from our very first church have been refurbished, glazed, framed and placed in the new church.

Sanctuary Minimize

The Sanctuary holds the Altar where the Eucharist is consecrated and the Ambo where the Scriptures are read and the Word proclaimed.

altartop_small.JPG  The Altar repeats the cross form and octagonal shape of the Baptismal Font and is built of oak (light-colored wood) and wenge (dark-colored wood) with a bronze cross and four granite inlay squares representing the four gospels and corners of the earth on the top.  The table has a square pedestal base with three crosses of wenge wood at the top, middle, and bottom within the center representing the Holy Trinity.  Square in shape and approachable from all sides, the Altar offers a symbolic invitation for all to come to the table.

ambo_small.JPG The Ambo where the scriptures are proclaimed repeats the cross motif of the Altar.  The Ambo is designed to accommodate the special needs of our children and physically challenged parishioners who may serve as lectors.  During the celebration of the mass the assembly is nourished both at the table of the Word through Scripture and the table of the Lord through the Eucharist.

crucifix_smallsize.jpgThe Cross from our old church was refinished and a corpus was added. The life-size corpus is cast in fiberglass and resin and hand-painted.  This cross is suspended from above between the Altar and Baptismal Font.

Seating Area Minimize

worship space small.jpg  The worship center accommodates seating for 1500 in a semi-circle around the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is raised above the gradually sloping seating, allowing for maximum visibility for all of the assembly.

The design allows the assembly to be located close to the altar to encourage their full and active participation in the liturgical celebrations. Space to accommodate wheelchairs and special seating is located throughout.  Although our Worship Space is large enough to accommodate our growing parish, the maximum distance from the back row to the altar is only 77 feet, a comparable distance to that of our old church.

The main structural expression within the Worship Space is meant to subtly recall the “tent or tabernacle” as stated in Exodus 25:8.  God commanded Moses, “They shall make a sanctuary for me, that I may dwell in their midst.”  Through all their weary wandering in the desert, the symbol of God’s presence was with them.  So Christ sets up His tabernacle in the midst of our human encampment.

Our music area was designed with flexibility to accommodate both a traditional choir on risers, or a two level set-up suitable for a contemporary band with drum sets, guitars and other instruments.

Our new space also has two soundboards which enable us to fine tune the projection of sound throughout the Worship Space and Gathering Area.  Speakers and acoustical panels on the walls and ceiling enhance the sound quality.

The lighting  system uses state-of-the-art fixtures to create an energized, direct, sharp lighting affect, which will be controlled through a computerized system. Through the use of dimming, this system will be able to control and store several lighting affects for various liturgical celebrations.
