This Lenten season, the FON (Friends of Nyamitanga) Twinning Ministry invites you to reach around the world to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Mbarara, Uganda by participating in raising funds to build dormitories for the Ngaara Primary School, Fr. Elias' grade school. Ngaara Primary School has around 500 students in kindergarten through 7th grades, a majority of whom are in the boarding section. In Uganda, boarding schools provide a conducive environment for children to study because they can access clean water and electricity to read their books at night, which is not often found in their homes. A majority of these children are from distant places and so, the boarding section saves them from walking long distances. The students stay at the school for the whole term (three months). They then go home for a three week break before returning for the next term.
Currently, the boarding students use an old classroom block and sleep on the floor; hence, the need for dormitories. This Lenten season, we will be collecting donations for the materials and labor to build dormitories for the students to have a proper and safe place to sleep. There will be a boys' and a girls' dormitory with the estimated cost for the construction of each dormitory being approximately $30,000. As a parish, we will provide the funds for one or both dormitories depending on the donations received.
