Eucharist

First Holy Communion

The Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are typically celebrated during a child’s 2nd grade school year. The first half of 2nd Grade sacramental preparation focuses on First Reconciliation; the second half focuses on First Holy Communion.

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration is a Catholic devotion dating back to the early days of the Church.  It involves exposing a consecrated host, the Blessed Sacrament, allowing us to sit and pray in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ.

Adoration technically refers to any prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament whether in front of a closed Tabernacle or in front of an exposed host in a monstrance. Exposition refers specifically to the situation of an exposed host in a monstrance. So, you may hear these terms used interchangeably.

During Eucharistic Adoration or Exposition it is appropriate to do any of the following:

  • Read and reflect on readings from the Bible or other spiritual writings.
  • Pray a Rosary or any other favorite prayers.
  • Converse with God through spontaneous prayer or journaling.
  • Sit quietly and listen or just enjoy being in the presence of Christ.

When is Eucharistic Adoration Offered:

  • The Blessed Sacrament Chapel is a Chapel of Perpetual Adoration.
  • Eucharistic Adoration is available whenever the Church building is open as the doors to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel are always open for anyone to come and pray in front of the closed Tabernacle.
  • Eucharistic Exposition is offered on Thursdays at 6:00pm.

After Hours Adoration
Those wishing to visit the Blessed Sacrament Chapel for Adoration after regular hours, please contact the Parish Office at 513-398-3821, ext. 3100.

First Friday Adoration is held the first Friday of every month. It begins with 8:00am Mass on Friday, and concludes with 8:00am Mass on Saturday.

During the times of 9:00am-6:00pm, First Friday Adoration will be held in the church.

During the times of 6:00pm-8:00am, First Friday Adoration will be held in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

How do I participate?
  • Come any time during the Adoration hours to spend some quiet, prayerful time with Jesus.
  • Some regular Adoration participants commit to specific time slots every First Friday to ensure that the Blessed Sacrament is never left alone.  You can sign up online to commit to spending a specific one-hour time slot with the Blessed Sacrament (via the buttons above).

Perpetual Adoration

At St. Susanna, the Blessed Sacrament Chapel is a Chapel of Perpetual Adoration. At every hour of the day and night, someone will be in prayer before the Sacred Host exposed in the Monstrance. This is a powerhouse of prayer for our parish and the motor behind our charitable works.

Of course, you always may spontaneously come in and pray at any time, day or night. However, we would ask that no one be in the chapel during the celebration of the Mass in the main church.
